Bath Tennis Club is close to hitting its £38,000 crowdfunding target as it looks to urgently restore its two floodlit outdoor courts.
The courts need resurfacing and new floodlights are also planned to allow members to play consistently in the evening, particularly throughout the winter months.
The club has received a quote for between £12,000 and £14,000 to upgrade the current floodlighting system, as long as the masts are still structurally stable, subject to a proper inspection.
Meanwhile, the floodlit courts have deteriorated dramatically, driven by their age and wet weather.
Without prompt action, the club says it risks being unable to offer any participation on these courts during wet periods, or during the darker evenings.
The total cost of the project is £68,000. Currently, the club has funds of £30,000. To bridge the funding gap, it is seeking support with the £38,000 appeal on the Crowdfunder website.
This will then activate a pledge from Sport England of £10,000, and any other donations and funding the club can secure will make up the difference to complete the project.
It is aiming to start the resurfacing as soon as possible and certainly before the autumn.
So far the crowdfunding appeal has prompted pledges totalling more than £28,000.
The club is aiming to expand its membership base, as well as providing more non-member tennis, fitness and wellness opportunities.
